These images are evidence of the things I love to do, and a footprint in the places I love to spend time. It’s all the more reason to plow through obstacles when plans routinely change on a dime.
I’ve had to bounce strobe lights off a waiter’s white shirt and his metal serving tray. I’ve wrangled 2nd graders, celebrities, and a horse named Hughey into frame. I’ve hauled lights up a volcano in Chile, and made sandbags out of rocks and old backpacks. A parking attendant once carried my Pelican case through the alleys of Skid Row, and then looked after the talents’ vehicles. I know what it’s like to shoot in subzero midwest temperatures, and in Death Valley’s triple digit summers, but my camera only overheated in a Miami nightclub. I’ve remained calm while getting a closeup of a mountain lion, and kept the lens steady with a fighter jet taking off overhead. I’ve been trusted to shoot swimsuit models in cold and foggy weather, and make a portrait within the allotted time of a Midtown crosswalk. After a long day, if the moon is waxing, I’ll drive to the beach to get a frame of it over the water; on a clear night, that is.
In my free time, I’ll blow the sand out of my gear, and then my car. You can find me suffering an early morning boxing class on the weekend, swimming laps at the public pool, or searching for the appropriate Curb Your Enthusiasm clip for my text threads.
